        Popular Culture Within 'Friends'

'Friends' has evolved into the lives of many over the past couple of decades. The show's multiple seasons, re-runs and it's feature on Netflix, has made the show timeless. Many people still watch the show for comedic relief and as a way to relate to the shows characters-Phoebe, Chandler, Rachel, Joey, Ross and Monica. Each character symbolizes a different person that many have come across in their life. Phoebe is the free spirit, Chandler is the workaholic funny guy, Rachel is the stereotyped 'feministic’ female, Joey is the airhead handsome guy, Ross is the hard-working sensitive guy and Monica is the aspiring entrepreneur that holds the family (in this case friends) down.

Through the show's setting in New York City, personas of the characters and cultural lessons, the first episode taken from the first season of 'Friends' correlates to John Storey’s definition of popular culture. This presentation will define Storey's meaning of popular culture and ideology. By the end of the presentation the viewer should be able to recognize how Storey's definition of popular culture and ideology correlates to the central meaning and lessons from the episodes of 'Friends.'
